The best value netbook seems to be the Acer One offering 1024×600 resolution and is also one of the lightest.

In terms of lightweight and free, I’d recommend either AVG or AntiVir. Both have a free basic version with full anti-virus protection, and run in a relatively small footprint.

I am on an acer netbook, happens all the time becuase it so cheap and bad/poor quality hard drive. that is why I prefer working on my $1.5K Laptop instead of my $300 netbook.
